Fast, professional freezer removal for Caldwell homes and businesses.
Delivering fresh starts since 2022
A dead freezer in a Caldwell garage is rarely a quick curb-side fix. Between North Caldwell's mid-century ranch homes, the craftsman bungalows near Old Town, and the newer places out toward Heritage Meadows and Mandalay Ranch, the one thing almost every old chest or upright freezer has in common is Freon — and that's what makes it a different job than hauling out a couch.
Because of that, a freezer that's still sealed up can't just go in a dumpster, get dropped at the curb on a normal week, or ride along with yard waste. It has to be handled as a refrigeration unit, start to finish.
Why a Freezer Can't Just Go to the Curb
Canyon County's landfill, Pickles Butte, sits south of Nampa off Missouri Ave, a short drive from most of Caldwell. It does take refrigeration units, but for a fee and only once the Freon has been dealt with — you can't roll a working freezer in as-is.
Republic Services runs the city's bulky item pickups, and those are scheduled ahead of time rather than a curbside free-for-all. Appliances qualify for pickup once Freon is removed, which is also the rule for Caldwell's free Spring Cleanup week and the post-holiday cleanup — a working freezer with Freon still inside doesn't make the free pile until that step happens.
That one requirement is really what shapes the whole job. Once the Freon's reclaimed, the shell is just metal and insulation, and it can move through recycling or the landfill without any special handling.
- Pickles Butte accepts refrigeration units for a fee, after Freon removal
- Republic Services bulky pickup requires an appointment, not a curbside drop
- Free Spring Cleanup and post-holiday cleanup take non-Freon appliances only
- Quarterly household hazardous waste events at O'Connor Field House and the Ford Idaho Center aren't set up for large appliances
- Once Freon is out, the metal shell can go to scrap recycling or the landfill
Getting It Out of the House
Access looks different depending on where you are in Caldwell. In the Steunenberg Historic District and the older blocks near the College of Idaho, a lot of the Queen Anne and craftsman homes from the 1890s through the 1920s have detached garages set off a back alley, and carts and bins in that part of town often get pulled to the alley rather than the street. If your freezer's in a detached garage or a tight basement, check that the alley or side path is actually clear before anyone shows up.
North Caldwell's mid-century stock is usually simpler — attached garages, a driveway that runs straight to the street. Out on the newer large-lot subdivisions like Heritage Meadows or Mandalay Ranch, there's more room overall, but driveways tend to be longer and sometimes gravel, and freezers often end up in a detached shop instead of the main garage.
Either way, a few minutes of prep saves time on the day: make sure the freezer's empty and the door will stay shut, measure doorways and stair landings if it's coming up from a basement, and clear a straight path to wherever the truck can park.
However your freezer ended up where it is, getting it out comes down to the same two things every time: handling the Freon correctly and having a clear path to haul it. Boise Appliance Removal can take care of both — call for a free estimate.
